Brown Trout - 1lb Bait - White Maggot
River Don, Hillsborough, Sheffield - December 2013
Caught on the river don around Hillsborough whist stick float fishing. Brown trout are common here and can be caught easily on trotted maggot or ledgered worm.
Sea Trout are the same species as Brown Trout. It's thought that a combination of environmental factors (such as food shortage) and genetics is responsible for the migrations of some young Brown Trout to the open ocean in march and early April. The trout undergo several morphological and physiological changes that prime the trout to be able to survive in salt water. The trout also take on a silver colour which is probably an adaptation to increase survival rates in their new environment. This is my only sea trout (right)!
Grayling - 1lb 1oz Bait - White Maggot
River Don, Hillsborough, Sheffield, South Yorks
The best spot for good bit of sport around sheffield is the river Don around Hillsborough. Fish caught are mostly between 8 and 12 oz, however I'm assured the fish grow to 2lbs further downstream.
Barbel - 11lb 4oz Bait - Luncheon Meat
River Trent, Shelford, Notts
One of two double figure barbel caught in the session the smaller fish tipped the scales at 10 lb 8oz. Caught on a flooded river fishing on a gravel bank out of the main current.
Pike - 18lb 9oz Bait - Small Roach trotted in a slack
Caught during James and I's annual fishing trip. The only pike caught on the trip between us.
Chub - 5lb 3oz Bait - Curried Cheese Paste
Small River In Notts, February 2015
After being on the hunt for a 5 pounder for almost a year this was a welcome capture. Caught on a questionable smelling stick lump of cheese paste.
Eel - 3.5 lb approx
Bait - Ledgered Lob Worm
River Trent, Hamms Bridge, Notts AA Water, Nottingham 2012
Caught on a day session fishing for Bream. This was the same fish that had broke my 4 lb line two days before in the same swim. Both barbless hooks were removed and the fish returned unharmed.
Wild Carp 3lb 4oz Bait - Redworm Tipped With Red Maggot
Bleasby, Nottinghamshire
Nice wild fish caught on an old Nottinghamshire gravel pit whilst tench fishing. The same day I caught over 50 unstocked juvenile tench on worm. Great days fishing that I will always remember.
Tench Bait - Redworm Worm Tipped With Red Maggot
Dace - 10oz
Fairham Brook, Clifton, Nottingham
Caught in the winter trotting maggot on a small tributary of the trent. There are few fish holding pegs here but when you find a deep hole you can expect to catch plenty of silver fish. Best targeted just after a flood.
Bream - 8lb 2oz Bait - Double Sweetcorn
River Trent, Gunthorpe, Notts
Caught fishing a wide and deep area of the trent (perfect habitat for bream and carp). Tactics were ground bait feeder filled with casters, corn and hemp with a corn hook bait.
Perch - 2lb 0oz Bait - Lobworm
Wiremill Dam, Sheffield, South Yorks, March 2014
Not the most impressive fish, caught in a small pond on light tackle float fishing a small lobworm in midwater.

One of my jammiest catches, whilst spinning for mackerel I impaled a large sand eel on a trebble. The eel was then trotted out the estuary mouth on the outgoing tide with a big pike float. The rest is history.
